I recently received the following email message, “We can create an AI clone of yourself that looks and sounds just like you, so you don’t have to record yourself anymore and can still grow your Instagram and TikTok audience with Career Professionals. Should I send a few AI-made videos? Let’s see if you can tell the difference.” I have to admit, I was horrified! It was worrisome to me that this company (or person) would find it acceptable to make a likeness of me without my consent. To me, this is an incredible overreach and misuse of AI.
Do I use AI? Absolutely! I use it as another tool in my toolkit, just like books, websites, articles, etc. I use it as an avenue in research (though I always dig into the source materials). But, as a coach, the individuals engaging with me need to trust that what they are seeing, reading, and hearing is truly my voice.
This appears to be the next frontier of ghost writing, and I, for one, cannot get behind it. Perhaps I am old school. At the end of the day, coaching is about trust, authenticity, and human connection. Tools like AI can support the work, but they should never replace the heart behind it. My clients deserve my real voice, presence, and perspective, not a digital imitation. If we lose that, we risk losing the very essence of what makes growth and transformation possible.
So, I’ll keep using AI as a resource, but never as a stand-in. The human part? That’s non-negotiable.
What about you? Where do you draw the line between convenience and authenticity?
