There are very few reasons I would be on a call at 6 o’clock in the morning but, as you know, I am a geek (a label I am beginning to wear proudly). So, when the Institute of Coaching hosted a webinar on “Unlocking the Brain’s Capacity Through Coaching,” I was all in.

I am keenly interested in the emerging data that informs how we can help our clients achieve lasting change. What can I say? I find the research endlessly fascinating. But, here’s why you might too.

Brain Coaching (the term used by the host) can help:

  • Increase self-awareness and self-reflection
  • Enable reframing of challenges as opportunities
  • Cultivate the ability to envision success
  • Create connections between your vision, goals, values, and behaviors
  • Identify practices that bolster your ability to stay the course when things get difficult and to bounce back after a setback
  • Recognize, celebrate, and reinforce progress

The role of the coach is to help you to identify and learn how to address the issues that are impeding your ability to achieve your goals. We ask questions and offer exercises geared toward expanding the way you see yourself, the situation, and the world around you. We create a space for you to be able to take the good long look in the mirror that is needed in order to see the gap between where you are and where you want to be, and the accountability that sees you creating lasting change.

As you look at the list, is there anything there that resonates for you? Did you find yourself drawn to one or items on the list thinking, ‘yep, I need to work on that.’? If so, I hope you also saw that there is a way forward — a way to tackle the things that are preventing you from achieving success. Let’s talk about how to get you moving in the direction of your goals. There’s no time like the present to take action!
